Grab has launched GrabBike Beta in Cambodia

Grab has launched its Moto Taxi service “GrabBike” in Cambodia as a beta version.
This Southeast Asia’s leading ride-hailing platform has operated Moto Taxi service among 3 of 8 countries where Grab has launched in, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia, so far. Cambodia is the fourth country where GrabBike is started.

I tried GrabBike in Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City, so let me share my experiences. In short, I was satisfied with GrabBike in HCMC but GrabBike in Bangkok was awful, in my opinion.

In Bangkok, when I booked a motorbike, GrabBike’s driver called me to confirm my order and location, even though he could check the location on his app. However, the driver could not speak English so I could not communicate with him. In the end, I had to book several times just to move by GrabBike. Meanwhile, in HCMC, my experience with GrabBike was great.

Other Grab services, GrabFood and GrabParcel come to Cambodia?

In other countries where Grab has launched, there are not only Ride-Hailing service but also Food Delivery (GrabFood) and Parcel Delivery (GrabParcel). Grab is not just an alternative of transportation but is becoming a delivery platform for everything.

GrabParcel: In Jakarta, Grab offers Last-mile delivery.

When Grab finishes GrabBike Beta and gets a good result, Grab may launch GrabFood and other services in Cambodia.

Grab’s biggest competitor Uber has also launched Food Delivery service, UberEATS in several Asian countries such as Japan and Thailand. In Cambodia, there are some local food delivery startups like Meal Temple but UberEATS has not started here. Uber entered Cambodia before Grab came, but in Food Delivery, there is a possibility that Grab will start earlier than Uber.

Get back to talking about GrabBike. When we use GrabBike in Cambodia, there is a concern that traffic accident. The traffic in Cambodia is less than Thailand and Vietnam but many drivers still don’t follow traffic rules in Cambodia.

I checked the price of GrabBike. From BKK1 to Toul Tom Poung 2, it was 4,900 KHR. In my experience, usually the fee of this route is over 1.5 USD (1 USD ≒ 4,000 KHR) so GrabBike’s price is really cheap.
