Review: Cambodian Food Delivery App “Meal Temple”

Tied up with work and no time to go for lunch?

Hi, it’s Takumi working in Phnom Penh. Have you ever tried a food delivery app? In the case when you are tied up with work and not able to make a time to go for lunch, it’s convenient and saves your time.

I tried Cambodian food delivery app, “Meal Temple”, so I’ll introduce this app in this column.

Food delivery apps in Cambodia

Before introducing Meal Temple, let me explain about food delivery apps in Cambodia.

In Cambodia, many food delivery apps exist already.

Cambodian food delivery apps:

According to my research, Meal Temple covers 3 cities, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville and you can order about 250 restaurants with Meal Temple.

When you come to Cambodia, you will see a delivery guy of one of the apps.
I see delivery guys of these apps every day.

How Meal Temple works?

Then let’s get started to introduce how Meal Temple works.

Meal Temple has a mobile app and a web app though, I used its mobile app.
If you use its web app, your experience will be different from mine.

There are 10 steps to order meals with Meal Temple mobile app.

1. Install app
2. Search restaurant
3. Select meals
4. Sign up
5. Submit address information
6. Confirm shipping information
7. Confirm payment information
8. Place order
9. Confirm order
10. Pay by cash on delivery

You prefer texts? Skip the following video. I’ll explain the steps one by one.

1. Install app

First of all, install Meal Temple mobile app from App Store or Google Play.



Please download and install the app as usual.

2. Search restaurant

When you finish installing Meal Temple app, open the app.



Once open Meal Temple app, search restaurant you want to order. When I entered my specific location in the search box, the app didn’t show any restaurants. So I recommend you to enter just the city name like Phnom Penh.



Then tap the right arrow button, restaurant list will be displayed like below.



Choose the restaurant you want to order.



3. Select meals

After choose the restaurant, select meals you want to order.



4. Sign up

After tap BRING IT button, Meal Temple ask you to sign up so enter required information.



5. Submit address information

Next, you will be asked to enter your address information.



6. Confirm shipping information

Next, confirm shipping information.



7. Confirm payment information

Next, confirm payment information.



8. Place order

Check order review and tap PLACE ORDER button.



9. Confirm order

The window changes and order details will be displayed.
Check your order again and tap CONTINUE SHOPPING button.



Your order is now complete.

10. Pay by cash on delivery

Currently, Meal Temple don’t any e-payment methods like credit card payment and Wing (Cambodian mobile payment service).

So payment by cash is the only way.

When the delivery guy arrives at your address, pay to the delivery guy by cash and receive your meal.

These are the steps to order meals with Meal Temple app.

Review of Cambodian leading food delivery app

I ordered meals in Phnom Penh with Meal Temple at 11:52 on weekday. The delivery guy arrived at 12:26 so the delivery time was around 30 mins. What do you think about it? I think it’s too long if I was hungry already at that time.

For the user experience of the app, as I described above there are 10 steps to complete the order so I felt there were too many steps until complete the order.

There was one bad point. The soup was spilled.

In Phnom Penh there are rough roads. So I understand the difficulty to delivery meals without spilling soup though. But this is the important point when we use a food delivery service, so I disappointed on this point.

Summary

The delivery time was around 30 mins and the soup was spilled.
You can order about 250 restaurants with Meal Temple and Meal Temple covers 3 cities, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville.

When I have a party at home or have no time to go for lunch, I will use Meal Temple again. It means I think I won’t use daily.

As I wrote in the beginning, there are many food delivery apps in Cambodia. So when I try other apps, I will introduce you.
