Hello, I’m Takumi offering information about internship and cultures in Cambodia. On the other day, I posted Krispy Kreme opened its first Cambodian shop in Phnom Penh. Today, Starbucks opened its second Cambodian shop at Aeon Mall Phnom Penh.
Then I visited the second shop today, opening day so I’ll report that in this article.
The second Cambodian Starbucks at Aeon Mall Phnom Penh is located here. In the Aeon Mall Phnom Penh, there are other coffee shops such as Costa Coffee, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, so Aeon Mall becomes a symbolic place that Phnom Penh is a hotspot for coffee shops.
Address: Lot E0014, G/F, Aeon Mall, Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Opening hours: 07:00 – 22:00
At 18:33, I was lined up in the waiting queue extending to the outside of the store, and I got the coffee at 19:16. The wait time was about 45 minutes.
Cambodia is hot and humid. Worried about the physical condition of the customer, they were giving out water.
Also, things like manuals describing how to order were dealt out so that people who came to Starbucks for the first time on the day could order smoothly.
At this time, I ordered the tall size of Caramel Frappuccino. The price was 3.2USD including tax. Compared to the price of the tall size of Caramel Frappuccino in Japan, it is about 4.6USD* so Cambodian one is cheaper by about 30%.
*Beverage Menu/Caramel Frappuccino
Compared to the price of common drinks served at Starbucks in Japan, Tall size, Grande size, Venti size are served in Cambodia cheaper by 26%, 16%, 8% on average. Becoming bigger size, the price is getting closer to the one served in Japan.
There is the biggest gap in price for the Tall size of Vanilla Cream Frappuccino, the one is served in Cambodia cheaper by about 1.6USD, 36%.
On the other hand, there is the smallest gap in price for the Venti size of Cafe Americano. The gap is only 0.02USD, 0.4% so it is almost the same price as Japan.
And the Starbucks pricing is higher than the most famous local coffee shop chain, Brown Coffee by 5 ~ 10%.
The taste of Cambodian Starbucks was completely Starbucks.
I found some Cambodian original menus in food. I tried the one of the original menus “Fish Amok Panini”. The price was 4.1USD.
Amok is the Cambodian traditional food. It’s hard to explain but I think Amok is kind of steamed egg hotchpotch with fish. “Fish Amok Panini” was panini with Fish Amok put inside.
I guess you think that you don’t need to visit Starbucks in Cambodia but if there are local original menus, you might get wanting to go there.
There were few tables good for laptop work but about many outlets were installed and I think there were totally 30 outlets. Of course, there was Free WiFi. (You can use WiFi only one hour)
The wall was covered with glass to incorporate outside light richly. Outside is a parking lot, so the view is not very good lol.
